Bill, haven't heard too much about Robert Haag from the coaching staff during the pre season, is that because of play or because the coaches wanted to see more of Morin and Ghost? Thanks.

Hägg had a good camp. Didn't hit the highs of some of the other guys but also didn't make as many glaring mistakes. Saw some power play time in his first NHL preseason game.

Yeah, seems like the likeliest outcome.

Probably VDV and Pedobear sent down, too.

I think after today's scrimmage in Allentown that Stortini and VandeVelde will be waived and told to just remain in Allentown to prepare to join the Phantoms. They may also do the same with Gostisbehere. However, with three more preseason games in three days, they may want to get an extra NHL look or two at Ghost and/or may want some extra forward bodies for the back-to-back-to-back games.

Bill-
If you were a betting man, who is more likely to be a permanent fixture on this roster (injuries aside) Jones or Bellemare?

Good question: That's probably the most intriguing battle over the remainder of camp. Going into camp, I'd have said Bellemare. But Bellemare's preseason injury has cost him a week and Jones has played very well.

However, over the balance of the season, I still give Bellemare the slight edge as the NHL roster player and Jones as the AHL/NHL swingman. Jones also has value to the Phantoms as a high-scoring AHL level player and a veteran leader.

Bill, obviously Ghost doesn't pass through waivers, but why? Because he's on an EL contract or because of his age?

Teammates had given positive impressions of Bellemare's play, some even surprised he had yet to make an NHL roster. He is also fairly seasoned ( nice way to put "old") although Jones is no youngster. I have a feeling both of these guys may bounce back and forth this season.

Bill-
Ek had a "speculative post" about Vinny still being moved. Everyone seems happier with his play and health this pre-season. And there isn't much that can be done since his contract appears to be immovable. That said, do you think his resurgence is due in part to the absence of both G and Couts in the pre-season? He's getting more playing time in his natural Center position. So, when the others return, aren't we back to the same question: where do we play Vinnie?

I think it has already been established that Vinny will play center.

Agreed.

Laughton really isnt pushing for his job at this point so there really isnt any jogjam at center.A healthy Vinny will br be your 2nd or 3rd line Center and pot 20+ goals.

PEB's waiver exempt and Jones is not, so you'd figure that plays into who starts on the roster out of camp, too.

Right now Im thinking Vinny is the 3rd line center and sees time on the 2nd PP unit

B Schenn stays on G's wing.

Capgeek now shows every player's waiver status.

http://www.capgeek.com/flyers/

Ghost will no longer be waiver exempt after he plays 80 NHL games or three seasons have passed, whichever comes first.

You might be right. It's looking close though because Brayden Schenn and Vinny Lecavalier have both played in the middle of the umbrella on the pp and both have played well.

Waivers are based on years of service, and games played.

Yes, because he's on his ELC.
- bmeltzer

A player can be on a ELC and not be waiver exempt. It's based on games played.
